Workshop – Revealing Animals – Intro to drawing

Revealing animals , introduction to drawing using the reductive / subtractive method with artist Aly Kirby

In this lesson you will be introduced to a fun alternative method of creating art, subtractive or reductive drawing. This technique is when the drawing surface is covered in graphite or charcoal and then erased to make the image. You take away rather than add to a drawing!

Using graphite, or other media you will engage in creating your own animal drawing using this method working from the resources provided.  This lesson includes a unique and engaging approach to introducing this technique by slowly bringing an image into focus.

Reductive drawing is a great way to create a drawing. It gets you away from thinking about lines and helps you focus on value/tone and shape almost sculpting your drawing as it progresses.
