Below are some frequently asked questions.
- Where are the monthly meetings held? – Meetings are currently held via Zoom until COVID restrictions allow us to meet in person again
- When are the meetings held? – Meetings take place at 7.45pm on the third Thursday of each month except August.
- What happens at the monthly meetings? – Our activity is centered on our monthly meetings which always feature a demonstration or talk by a professional artist. We aim to cover all areas of interest and different media including oils, watercolour, acrylics, and pencil.
- Do members have to pay to attend monthly meetings? – No, Membership entitles you to a range of benefits:
- Eleven meetings a year, with demonstrations by a range of professional artists.
- The opportunity to show your work at any exhibitions or sales events that we organise, and to sell it if you wish.
- Regular newsletters by email, providing up to date information.
- Option to join our Monthly Virtual Art Together days
- Option to join our WhatsApp Social Group
- Option to join other events such as plein air painting days or gallery visits
- Encouragement from fellow amateur and professional artists.
- Can I come to meetings without being a member? – Non-member guests are very welcome at meetings are asked to pay £4 for virtual meetings, although we will occasionally charge more to help cover the costs of a more expensive demonstrator. Please check the information against each meeting in Diary Dates/Meetings. Please contact us for a Zoom Link if you would like to attend a demonstration
- Are there any age restrictions for members?– Full membership is open to anyone aged 14 or over who is interested in art, practicing or not, amateur or professional. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
- How does the Membership year run? Our membership year runs from January
The annual fee for 2021 is £25 (Discounted by £10 due to COVID) - Is the venue disabled friendly? – Yes
- Do I have to be good at painting, drawing etc to be a member? – No, you just have to be interested in Art
- I have recently taken up painting again, but am not feeling too confident. Is the society suitable for me? – It is perfect, hopefully you will find inspiration and instruction from the meetings and demonstrations, and be encouraged to pursue your creative endeavours. We can also put you in touch with local tutors.
- I am interested in art but don’t have time to do much. Is the society suitable for me? – It is perfect, hopefully you will find inspiration and instruction from the meetings and demonstrations, as meetings are held once a month, it is not a large commitment but hopefully it will encourage you in your ongoing interest in art.
- How do I know when and where the workshops are? – any workshops will be announced on this website as well as our Facebook Page at the monthly meetings and in our monthly newsletter – please sign up for this on our contact page
- Does the society have exhibitions of members work? – Our annual exhibition is held at the end of October. We are very proud to give all our members the chance to exhibit their work and take great pleasure in welcoming the public to our annual exhibition held in October at Leighton Middle School. Participation is purely voluntary as is the opportunity for you to put your work up for sale.
- Do I have to exhibit my work? – Participation is purely voluntary as is the opportunity for you to put your work up for sale.
- Can I sell my pictures through the society? – We are happy for you to sell your work at the exhibition (fees apply). We also offer a members gallery on the website. Please get in touch via the Contact Us page to arrange this
- If I exhibit my pictures, do they have to be for sale? –No. A NFS (Not For Sale) label can be attached
