The LBAS Sketchbooks Project

The Leighton Buzzard art Society Sketchbooks Project began under the cloud of Covid in 2020 but now has a life of its own. The brainchild of Tricia Lunt, who also makes the sketchbooks, draws the frontispiece and comes up with the wonderful themes. Tricia suggested we share sketchbooks as a means of keeping in touch even when we were unable to meet physically. Each book is shared between 4 artists, each has a week in which to complete their double page. The book is then passed on to the next person, it goes to each artist 4 times, so they complete 4 images on the same theme. Included in each book is also a page at the back for small self portraits or images of each artist. Many of the artists in each book may not know each other and have no other contact if they do not attend the same LBAS events.
Each sketchbook also contains a ‘chat book’ where the artists can ‘chat,’ maybe explain their choice of imagery or just encourage each other on the journey, there is also a bit of a history of really bad jokes!
These little gems are wonderful to look through and are avilable at each of our demonstrator meetings for members to browse and at our exhibitions so the public can see them ‘in the flesh’.
Any member of LBAS is welcome to take part at any time, just get in touch with Tricia and you will be added to the list for the next book. The members of LBAS owe Tricia their thanks for all her hard work and for making our lives just that little bit brighter with these wonderful art timecapsules.
